The Gregorian calendar is based on the birth year of Jesus Christ. It was introduced in A.D. 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII. It recognizes two eras: B.C. (Before Christ) and A.D. (Anno Domini). A year has 12 months with 28-31 days each, totaling 365-366 days.
The Islamic or Hijri lunar calendar is based on the Hejira (migration of Muhammad from Mecca in A.D. 622). It recognizes one era: A.H. (Anno Hegirae). A year has 12 months with 29-30 days each, totaling 354-355 days.
